Quality and Safety Education for Nurses’ Safety, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 392

Essay

Health care and quality must operate in parallel in order to accomplish the intended objectives and to be proactive in meeting the needs of patients at all levels. Minimum standards of care, a concept first introduced by Florence Nightingale, remains a critical priority for healthcare organizations throughout the world and provides a basis for the standards set forth in the modern era of health care practice. Current and future directives are also based upon the Joint Commission and other initiatives to ensure that patient care quality is not compromised under any conditions. For nurses, it is significant that health care quality serves as a pinnacle of the practice environment and provides a basis for examining new ideas to integrate into nursing education to expand knowledge and resources to improve quality on a continuous basis (Pelletier & Beaudin, 2012).

Nursing education has been significantly impacted by the demand for improved quality of care and patient safety, thereby increasing the level of support and knowledge to encourage nurses to better understand these measures as part of their learning curve (Jones, 2013). Most importantly, nurses must be able to demonstrate their competence in patient safety in order to protect them from unnecessary risk or harm while administering care and treatment (Ginsburg, Tregunno, & Norton, 2013). This will encourage nursing students to recognize the significance of patient safety and in supporting a framework that encourages students to exercise caution when treating their patients to achieve the best possible outcomes (Ginsburg et.al, 2013). This practice will demonstrate the value of nursing as a significant contributor to patient care and in expanding the knowledge and resources that are required to improve quality of life for all patients (Ginsburg et.al, 2013). Patients will significantly benefit from skills that will encourage their ability to provide high quality care to their patients under a variety of conditions.
