Reanalysis of the NIDA CTN Women and Trauma Study, Essay Example

Words: 560

Essay

A study on women seeking safety or seeking health education has revealed the relationship between attendance patterns and group membership turnovers by the following instruments: Latent Class Pattern Mixture Modeling (LCPMM) and Addiction Severity Index for evaluation, assessment, and interpretation of controlled data based on the number of women (n=353) in the outpatient substance abuse treatment program for 12 sessions along with the baseline at 1 week, 3, 6, and 12 months posttreatment.Women were evaluated for their co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder and alcohol and cocaine substance drug abusesto be eligible to participate in the clinical randomized controlled trial at the National Institute Drug Abuse (NIDA)’s Clinical Trial Network (CTN). The authors used two different definitions to describe the characteristics of women. The term, the “completers” is describing of those women who has completed all of the 12 sessions along with all of the baseline points. A term, the “titrators” is describing of those women who has completed half of the 12 sessions during the half time at the baseline points. The other term, the “droppers” is describing of those women who did not complete all of the 12 sessions along with all of the baseline points of time when the clinicians conducted the testing. They found that from the LCPMM analyses of the estimates of women with similar alcohol and cocaine use showed a pattern of attendance to either program: safety place or the health education by using the probabilities. The results are: the probability of 80% of completers did not deceased the chance of attending, while the 41% of droppers did not exceed the chance of attending, and of these 50% to 80% of titrators had demonstrated the chance of attending to the substance abuse treatment program. Research showed that there is highly significance of women with PTSD and substance use disorders have chosen to seek safety than of those women who seek for health education thus the membership turnovers increased and their outcome for treatment is at lower level for improvement in self-care and efficacy. In addition, the authors suggest a further investigation for researchers to focus on translational research which help to examine what psychotherapeutic approach to utilize for the participants who accompanies their friends, loved ones, or guardian for support to the health education. That is the foremost first thing that the authors want for researchers to keep in mind first hand when handling such matter. Also, they recognized that the participants who has successfully improved their self-care in reducing the alcohol and cocaine use also has psychopharmacology treatment, in particular with personalized medicine, individualized treatment planning, and on-site treatment efficacy. It is an interesting article to read because the authors has provided three different assumptions on women with alcohol and cocaine use and test their willingness to participate in one or two similar programs during the baseline points which it is relevant to today’s problem among women. It is very clear and simple and straightforward article with two types of instruments for assessment which I think that helps to reduce the complexity and to increase the comprehension of the article.
