Reasoning Identification, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 227

Essay
  1. The type of reasoning used in this example is causal reasoning. While it may be true that a higher number of men who are bald have heart attacks, this assumption without evidence leads to a false cause fallacy.
  2. The type of reasoning used in this example is reasoning from specific instances. The Women for Women International organization may have benefited women in Rwanda, Kosovo, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, more evidence is required before taking these specific examples and applying them to a general statement.
  3. The type of reasoning used in this example is reasoning from principle. The statement progresses from a general statement of the United States Constitution guaranteeing citizens the right to bear arms, to specific statement that gun control legislation infringes on the Constitution. The argument that gun control legislation infringes on the Constitution is based on the statement that it infringes on citizens’ right to bear arms. While interference with the Second Amendment may be true, stronger evidence is required before concluding that gun control legislation harms the Constitution.
  4. The type of reasoning used in this example is analogical reasoning. Because certain national curriculum and national tests work in the other countries, this reasoning assumes that the same standards will work in the United States as well. However, students in the United States may or may respond as favorably as students in other countries.
