Reflecting on the Rough Draft Process, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Words: 330

Research Paper

I approached the writing of this research paper with a great deal of trepidation.  I wasn’t necessarily nervous about the writing component of this assignment, but the scope of the project seemed quite large and I was worried about getting overwhelmed with too much information.  However, the measured pace of this assignment has helped me to avoid one of my greatest weaknesses:  procrastination.  It has been very helpful for me to have small goals to meet each week rather.  This structure has made it impossible for me to put off my research, writing, and editing until the very last minute.  As a result, I am quite proud of my work thus far.  I took my time with the research portion of this assignment and was able to find sources that provided a balanced assessment of the pros and cons of homeschooling children.  I am able now to see the benefit of not rushing the research process as it has enabled me to organize my information in such a way that it facilitated the writing of my rough draft rather than hindering it.

After having completed the first five pages of my research paper, I feel confident in my writing abilities and am surprised, as well, to find that I am excited to continue writing the paper.  I’ve learned a great deal about the subject of homeschooling and had some of my own preconceptions about this alternative teaching method changed, especially after my interview with a mother who homeschools her three children.  The only difficulty that I anticipate in completing my research paper is in crafting an effective conclusion that summarizes my work without being repetitive.  However, I believe that being aware of a potential problem can be helpful in overcoming said problem or avoiding it altogether.  I intend to review my finished paper in great detail so that I am able to present a coherent, interesting, and well-organized discussion of the benefits that homeschooling can provide to parents and their children.
