Who do you think should get involved in helping these refugees besides the Community Health Nurse? Discuss.

The county administration in whose jurisdiction the refugees are settled has a very important role to play. This administration is responsible for the safety and general housing of the refugees. It should, through legal means, organize for the best housing services to provide for the refugees.

The security committee of the country in which the refugees have been settled has the obligation to assign some security officers either inside or around the refugee camp or housing. This will alleviate any fear among the refugees of being attacked since most of them are usually in a traumatic state.

Other Non-Governmental Organisations should also be involved so as to offer some humanitarian assistance in terms of the food and clothing for the victims. They should also be willing to take charge in the taking care of the pregnant women in the group of the refugees. As refugees leave their home country they do so in a hurry and therefore there is hardly any time to prepare for the run.

This therefore means that basic needs such as food and clothing are usually not prepared before fleeing hence the need to organize for the provision of such basic needs in the country that receives them. The non governmental purpose is not limited to bearing the costs of providing such but they could use their position in the society to seek for the required support from the majority of the public in the hosting country. Most people will not hesitate to contribute to any kitty intended to improve the welfare of the refugees and the only problem they face therefore is the ability to know where and when to contribute. The NGOs can easily maximize on such an opportunity to easily deliver the assistance as needed by the refugees.

The UN through its agency that deals with the refugees, UNHCR should also come in and help with the delicate policies and principles that govern the treatment of the refugees in a country other than their original. This might include assistance in terms of the housing and food supply for the refugees and the provision of education for the children refugees. Children refugees just like any other children have the desire to fulfill their educational dreams.

Much must therefore be done to ensure that such dreams are not shuttered just because of the refugee situation. The UN should therefore implement the measures that would see attainment of the basic education among the children refugees by ensuring there is the supply of both teaching staff and equipment which constitute the basic educational infrastructure.

The US state department for health should formulate policies and oversee their implementation to ensure that those infected with HIV have easier access to the Anti-Retroviral Drugs. This department should also put in place measures that will see psychologists visit the refugee camps or houses to give them the much needed psychological support. This is necessary since most of the refugees escape from the war zones after witnessing horrific scenes that in most cases leave them highly traumatized.
