Relationship Between Signature, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 301

Essay

The authors of the article discuss an interesting relationship between signature, size of the company, and the decisions that these executive organizations are likely to take. A long-running joke is that individuals that need to compensate for some aspect of their physical or mental self are more likely to drive a large car. It appears that the phenomenon of using a large signature is a similar concept. Overall, the authors claim that signature can be used as a narcissistic personality indicator, which can be used to predict the behaviors of executives.

The author utilizes a question/answer format to defend his posed opinion. In doing so, he hopes to convince the reader that there really is a relationship between signature size and the personality of the signer. It appears that a lot can be told about an individual’s signature. A messy signature, for example, can indicate laziness or that the individual signing doesn’t particularly care about the document they are placing their signature upon. However, size may not necessarily be a personality indicator. There are many practical implications of using a large signature. For example, some individuals have large handwriting in general because each individual learns to write a certain way. Once this happens, writing styles become habit and are not often adjusted later in life. If there are no margins available, it is challenging to determine the reason behind the size of a signature. Therefore, there may not be a relationship between size of signature and personality in this instance.

While a signature can be used to tell a lot of information about personality, the link between size and level of narcissism may not be true. It would be valuable to repeat this study with a larger sample size to confirm this correlation. However, it is likely that causation will not be found.
