Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability Measures, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 297

Essay

The requirements for logistics support are significantly influenced by reliability factors. When mathematicians and organizational managers collaborate to generate a logistical plan for their organization, the validity of their measurements is dependent upon a variety of reliability factors (Waters, 2003). When these professionals are able to have a concise understanding of a situation, their measurements and suggestions are more likely to parallel what will happen in reality. However, if reliability is low, the suggestions provided by these individuals are likely to serve as predictions, and the utility of the information will be fully dependent upon the degree to which this information is reliable.

To ensure that predictions with regards to the outcomes of logistics are accurate, it is important to utilize a variety of factors to establish a higher likelihood for reliability. Thus, individuals that form algorithms that allow them to account for factors including the size of the workforce, the time that it will take for work to be done, the routes that goods must travel to ensure optimal cost and delivery time, and factors pertaining to the distribution channel, it is reasonable for professionals to achieve a measurement of realistic reliability, maintainability, and availability measures. While this is not always possible based on the information known and understood by these individuals, it is beneficial to strive for the development of a model that allows for the accomplishment of these goals. It is necessary to consider the maximum available factors in this relationship because in doing so, the predictions will be more meaningful and the practices of the organization will be conducted according to their company wide goals and objectives. Thus, a best practice in the field is to enhance the reliability of the predictions made.
