Rembrant Van Rijn’s Portrait, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 291

Essay

In the image presented by Van Rijn, it could be considered that the facial expression of the image being portrayed was a vital part of the drama that the art itself imposes. Reflectively, such idea insists on the possibility of creating an appeal that would get the attention of the viewing audience thus enticing them to look through the work.

To add up to the dramatic feel of the image itself, the background was left plain to avoid any visual distraction that may lead away the eyes from the central piece of consideration. Notably, this portrait suggests seriousness, an image representing a stiff emotion, as if pointing out the vivid reflection of the character’s overall personal stature.

The clothing of the one in the image is also kept at a subtle reflection as if blending into the background. To even enhance such feature, the lighting is focused upon the face alone. This allows the audience to see no more than the face while perhaps glancing a bit on other elements making up the whole image.

To copy this pose, it is important to make sure that the lighting focuses only on the most specific features of the individual being represented in the image. The clothing and background to be used should be less attractive and must be in pastel colors that blend in together. The main idea is to make sure that the face is the focal point of the whole imagery and nothing else beyond that. While mandating or managing the different elements that contribute to the concept of keeping the image subtle yet focused, the actual facial expression of the one copying the form of the model in the portrait should follow the same restraint feature that suggests seriousness and stiff emotion.
