Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome refers to a health condition that is a manifestation of several archetypal symptoms that include severe arm pains, legs as well as fingers, skin swelling, tenderness, warmth or coolness in the limbs, flushing as well as shiny skin. The exact cause, proliferation and development of RSDS are poorly understood, although it may be associated with injury to the nerves, trauma, surgery, infection, or even radiation therapy (Levine, 2010). Symptoms associated with RSD are evident in three stages namely acute, dystrophic as well as atrophic. RSD can only be diagnosed through conducting clinical tests of the blood as well as radiological tests. The suitable radiological tests include MRI scanning and X-Ray. Patients with a past history of stroke and heart attacks are particularly vulnerable to RSD and chances of contracting this disease are diminished through early mobilization. Some patients suffering from fractures of the bones can be given Vitamin C in form of supplements to reduce the potential risk of getting RSD (Pachaczevsky, 2008).
