Researching in Criminal Justice, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 361

Essay

The Department of Justice website is very inclusive and conclusive articulating the variety of crimes, degree of crime frequency, relevant legislation, strategic plans, etc for anyone to view and is an incredibly useful tool for anyone studying criminal justice, entering the criminal justice field, or already employed in the criminal justice department.  The home page of the website offers the latest news on a variety of criminal justice matters, interactive blogs, and basics on how law is made, and featured topics that range from white collar crime matters to veterans with disabilities affairs.  The Department of Justice is comprised of several regulatory bodies that work together under the federal government of the United States to combat crime frequency.

The Department of Justice website will be a beneficial site as my research topic will be on homicide and the sociological breakdown of it.  To further iterate, murders occur in a variety of settings but are mostly perpetrated against one gender, with slight variance; and, committed by one gender.  My paper will attempt to discuss gender roles and the societal constructs of them and how those constructs equate to violence and more specifically murder rates.  In another vein, as I enter the corrections field working with juveniles, understanding the socioeconomic foundations of violent crimes will allow for interventions and rehabilitation of young offenders before they commit more serious crimes as adults.

As I develop my research paper, the Department of Justice website will allow the statistical data needed to develop a functional thesis and support it through intense documentation.  For example, when following the link under publications, articles come up that deal specifically with, “Murder in Families,” “Murder in Large Urban Counties,” “Juvenile Felony Defendants in Criminal Courts,” etc. (www.justice.gov 2011).  This website coupled with knowledge on the sociology that surrounds my particular topic will prove to be the necessary tools for critically analyzing the root causes, statistical data, and sources of crime that will inevitably render itself in a deductive conclusion that murder is primarily committed by men and against men (again allowing for variance) in an attempt for overinflated dominance in this world.
