Personal, real, and intellectual property management

The Procter & Gamble Company is a corporation established in U.S.A. The company deals with the manufacture of detergents, cosmetics, fats, oils, and other related products that arise from its by-products.

The company has both intellectual and real properties that its management ought to protect from unfair competition and theft. A three-step procedure becomes the basis of ensuring protection of these properties.

The first step is the identification of the company’s properties. The management of Procter & Gamble ought to identify all protectable properties it possesses. This includes invented products, procedures, and physical properties. The management can achieve this by reviewing its list of registered trademarks, copyrights, logos, and slogans that the company uses in manufacturing and marketing processes. The list of intellectual properties that do not fall under legal protection ought to be under tight security to avoid any disclosure to competitors. Such properties include manuals, videos, articles, and standard operating procedures. The company should also protect those services it acquired through the inventions of the second party companies. Such properties include information from web designers, artists, and graphic designers. The second party companies should be protected from selling or using any of such properties that are in use with Procter & Gamble. Physical properties such as documents, packages, machineries, and structures need both physical and legal protection. This entails registering properties and offering security personnel to ensure safety of the properties (Richard Raysman, 1998).

Upon identification of the list of real, physical, and personal properties of Procter & Gamble, the management needs to take steps that will ensure protection of all properties against intended theft from competitors. This is achievable by ensuring that unintended liabilities do not arise. Protection from unintended liabilities needs education of employees and clients of what is tantamount to illegal acquisition of protected property. Such education falls under regulatory compliance measures. The management of Procter & Gamble needs to perform this compliance through setting up of operating rules and procedures, frequent training, meetings and inspections. This will enable employees to understand the importance of protecting and avoiding illegal use of protected properties (De George, 1999).
