These trends in society assist in promoting the tea party in American politics. The goal of tea parties is to ensure that ordinary citizens not oppressed by the policies made by government officials especially of financial matters by the federal state. The desire to reduce the burden on the society on matters of taxation is an eminent need.
The trends of single parenting exert financial constraints to the parents and increases in tax liabilities will force the individuals to resort to oppose any further taxation policies (Deparle & Tavernise, 2012). The standpoint of the Tea party is the reduction of the tax burden on citizens. The individuals dissatisfied with the policies of the government then join the tea part to voice their dissatisfaction.
On the other hand, the policies on taxation taken by the government are seen as the results of the tea party. When the federal government makes policies that tend to reduce taxes, the tea party takes credit even though they may have not advocated for the implementation. The perception of other individuals not members of the tea parties change and they see the tea party as winning the war. The tea party tends to grow with the increase in these trends as they receive accreditation for the policies on the implementation of reduced taxes. Appelbaum & Gebeloff (2012), provide that, although the federal government manifests the interests of the citizens, the perception is that, the implementation of policies is done through the pressure from the tea party.
Tension in the GOP
The position on taxation policies taken by the members of the Grand Old Party (GOP) is a conflicting one. Some members of the party are of the opinion that the government should reduce taxes, however, others support the move by the government on matters, which increase taxes. Those who support these initiatives argue that the benefits derived from the policies go a long way in assisting the citizens to access the social amenities such as health care. Others just oppose these policies on the basis of protesting the increment of taxes.
The divide in the GOP has brought a rift in the party that tends to split the party loyalty based on the position of the individual on these issues (Heilemann 2012). The differences have created another stream in the party, which has conflicting opinion on these matters from the parent company. The divide of the party along culture and class lines is also eminent with the differing ideologies, temperament, and demography. These divides and the coalitions within the grand old party move along these lines. Although the party members oppose any chances of this divide compromising their quest to change the American economy through the winning of the presidential election, these rifts create tension, which will consequently change the party. The party members, which disagree with the ideologies and policies by the parent party, will end up forming their own coalition, or even defecting from the party altogether. According to Frum (2012), the desire to change the Obama administration, and the numerous differences within the party do not go well together. The disagreements in the party together with the policies and the pursuit of a single agenda regardless of other issues involved, creates an environment packed with tension. In order to succeed in the desire to get into power, it becomes necessary to look into these issues.
