Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center Statement, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 382

Essay

I want to work at Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center. This is because the newly built facility is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technologies and provides a complete range of services to the cancer patients including diagnostics, treatment, care and support services for cancer patients and their families. But the center is not only a treatment facility but also offers support services, resources, and complimentary therapies offered by very few other cancer centers across the country (Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center). In addition, the building has been carefully designed to give a feeling of nurturing environment where patients feel right at home. This is why I want to work here because I have been impressed by the forward-looking approach of the center and how it skillfully combines medical treatment with other services to redefine healthcare.

I also want to work at a cancer center because I have personally witnessed the loss of relatives as well as loved ones of my friends succumbing to cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that about 577,190 cancer deaths will occur in the U.S. this year and over 1.6 million new cases will be diagnosed (American Cancer Society). I believe that one purpose of life is to be of help to the society which is why I have chosen this career and what better course of action than to work at an organization that is tackling the issue with ample resources and latest technologies. Another reason I want to work at Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center is because I want to work in administration. I read on a variety of subjects including nursing, IT, and business and am aware of the latest trends in healthcare. More and more healthcare organizations are being run as business enterprises in order to achieve operating efficiency and use their limited resources to benefit as many people as possible. Working at Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center will expose me to the best practices in healthcare administration as well as provide me opportunity to interact with some of the leading professionals in the cancer care industry.
