Before physical restraints are used, it is essential to consider other forms of restraint, such as chemical restraint if it is relevant to therapy. However, if physical restraint must be used, the least-restrictive device should be implemented and consequences of constraint should be considered. Clients in restraints must be observed for pain and distress.
