Scars

My memory is hazy because at the age of six,it is hard to remember the events clearly, however, my parents filled in the blanks with their version of the burn story. My parents have told the story some many times to family and friends, that my fuzzy memory of events has become a little clearer. At the age of six, my family was entertaining some friends that appeared to be very close neighbor. The oldhouse was simple single-story ranch house with lots of spaces and rooms. The favorite place for the kids to play was the garage because it had space and the most interesting tools. The kitchen was the primary place our family gathered to eat and sometimes just sitting around with family. In our family, the kitchen was the safest place in the home because it was always cool with some nice chairs and tables. In the older homes, the water facet water always gets scalding hot to the touch.

On this day, I decided to take a bath early to watch some television and play some games. However, in our house children were not allowed to take a bath in the shower but we could wash our faces and hands in the sink. This particular morning it was cold and rainy because the sound of the rain drops. The water was cold while washing my hands, so to heat the water; I used the red handle get the water warmer. At that moment, I heard a noise in the hall thinking someone else was awake and maybe they wanted to use the bathroom. The old homes have some interesting sounds such creeks and seem like the wooden floors always made some noise. The distraction was enough for me to put my hand in the water, which burned my hand. The screams woke up everyone in the home because scalding water burned my hand severely.

My parents immediately rushed me to the emergency room but my mother did something that may have save me from a large noticeable scar. She immediately soaks my scolded red hand with cool water as my father ran to get the car. In addition, the cool water appeared to keep the swelling down. We arrived at the hospital seem like it took days but when you are hurting time just slows down. The hospital emergency room immediately treated my burn very quickly because my parents were in worse shape. They felt guilty because I burned my hand in the bathroom while they were sleep that morning. The hospital did not help the situation because they have to make sure that the child was not abused or burned on purpose. It was not long before my parents made it clear it was an accident because the home is old but the water heats so fast without warning. The emergency room for the children was the best place in the hospital. The walls had animals along with interesting toys to keep children from thinking about being sick or hurt. The hospital wrapped my handed after treatment but my parents never got over the burn scar on my hand. My parents dedicated the rest of my childhood treating that burn scar because they were determine to heal the hand. It was a second-degree burn which required my parents to change the dressing every day. The hand began to heal on its own but it was clear it would be a burn scar. However, my parents refused to let this happen, because overnight my parents became educated about treating burn scars naturally. From that day forward, my parents made sure every day they put aloe cream on my hand. I am sure my parents purchased every burn scar topical crème on the market. As I grew older, it became routine to use a new topical cream. Finally, my parents heard about a topical cream called Merderma. Merderma is a topical cream used to help burn scars disappear or less noticeable. As result today, the burn scar is gone from my parent’s dedication to ensure that scar would be healed.
