Scholarship Selection Rationale, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 557

Essay

Angela demonstrates intelligence, high scores and has plans to study chemistry. Evelyn demonstrates high scores and has been working as a teaching assistant. Pablo is an international student who has shown promise by his ability to learn in another language. Angela, Evelyn and Pablo have demonstrated the most potential by their academic achievements. This is why they deserve the consideration. As a member of the scholarship board at CCSN, I would choose Angela, Evelyn and Pablo the three most deserving scholarship recipients.

The reasoning behind my first choice is that Angela is extremely intelligent. She has substantial potential, as she has shown a high level of intelligence and has graduated at the top of her class. Angela’s intelligence traits enable her problem- solving abilities and increase her potential of graduating from the educational program of her choice. Chemistry majors are highly sought after and upon her completion, I feel that she can make a difference and that the scholarship funds would be well applied.

The next candidate who should be considered is Evelyn. Evelyn has worked as a teacher’s assistant for a number of years. The experiential knowledge that she can bring to the college coursework and the fact that she is exceling academically cause her to be a candidate for the scholarship program. Evelyn could apply her experience toward becoming an excellent teacher. The experience that Evelyn has developed as a teaching assistant could be transformed into valuable knowledge as a teacher with this scholarship. As a returning student who has been a teaching assistant, it is evident that Evelyn understands the value of a scholarship opportunity. Although Evelyn is not as qualified for the scholarship as Angela, she is more deserving of the scholarship than Pablo. This is due to her maturity and her dedication to teaching which is manifested by her career as a teacher’s assistant.

Pablo would be the third candidate for the CCSN scholarship. Pablo is qualified for the scholarship for the manner by which he has adapted to the culture, language and achieved an English proficiency that corresponds to the university level. I am not sure if his status as an international student permits the scholarship. Pablo has shown significant promise in learning English as a second language. He is involved in campus activities and has the potential of doing very well with the CCSN scholarship. In the event that there are restrictions being conferred upon Pablo, I perceive that Angela, Pablo and Evelyn would be the most likely candidates as a result of their individual motivations, potential and problem solving ability.

Angela should get the scholarship because she attained high grades in high school, demonstrates intelligence and wishes to pursue a career in chemistry. Evelyn should get the scholarship due to her attributes as a teacher’s assistant and the potential that she shows for becoming a teacher. The quality of Evelyn appreciating education is manifest by her return to school as a mature student.  Pablo has shown potential in his ability of learning English and reaching a competency which is at the university level. The aspects of individual potential, motivation, problem solving abilities and the potential of completing the college educational goals make them the three most likely candidates for the CCSN scholarship, Angela, Evelyn and Pablo.  These three candidates are the most likely to make the best use of the CCSN scholarship funds.
