School Corporal Punishment, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 270

Essay

The issue at hand is school corporal punishment and its questionable effects on children in public, there has been some states in the union that has completely stopped school corporal punishment for the simple fact that its effects are being seen as a little abusive and unnecessary. School Corporal Punishment has been a long standing practice that has, in reality, straightened out many a child and has kept those same children on the straight & narrow.

I’m personally interested in the topic because some have argued that school corporal punishment is not that effective and it is seen as abuse, what also interests me is the number of states that actually have stopped corporal punishment in school because its seen as the ‘worst’ kind of discipline. Growing up in the 80s and 90s warranted such punishment because education and respect was king.

One of the research questions I would ask is, where is a child’s future headed without such disciplinary actions from the days gone by?

And another would be are states doing the right thing banning what could be the most effective form of discipline, why are the old ways of punishment and discipline being taken out?

Valerie Strauss (2014) reported that, “schools are doing more damage taking out the old ways of punishment because today’s kids have no disciplinary structure” (Strauss, 2014).

As far as I’m concerned, corporal punishment in schools is still necessary because it shows kids that the adults care about them; today it’s a fear factor with adults versus kids.
