School Nurses’ Duties, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 280

Essay

Both of the articles presented in the outlines above present information about the changing responsibilities of nurses in the school system due to the increased chronic illnesses present in students.  The article written by Erickson et al. (2006) was a primary journal article written by researchers.  This article presented information about a specific model called “The Healthy Learner Model”. In addition, the article researched primary literature reviews to support their information; whereas, the article written by Sonnenberg (2013), referred to quotes from the president of the National Association of School Nurses and information obtained from the National Association of School Nurses.  Both articles do however; indicate how the roles of nurses have changed and how the need for nurses in order to identify health risks and learning problems is essential to the school nursing system, as well as the need for the implementation of models for nursing practice in the school system.  Furthermore, both articles provide sources for their information; however, the primary journal article by Erickson et al. (2006) provides scientific research on the elements of the model; whereas, the Sonnenberg (2013) article presents information from a nursing website.

Overall, both articles do present the idea that school nursing responsibilities are changing due to the increase in student chronic illnesses.  In addition, both articles do present the need for some type of model implementation for nurses to follow in order to keep the students in school and continue their education.
