Essay

Everything in the world revolves around finance. Money is required to undertake many things not only in business but also in other fields. In order for companies and other organizations, to grow there is a need to have people who are knowledgeable on how to manage finance (Wachowicz, 2008). I have also realized that it is necessary to have knowledge of technical aspects of any project and also the ability to manage people. This is because people are the greatest assets that any organizations have in their operation (Brigham & Ehrhardt, 2008).  I feel having knowledge in technology and management would make me realize my career dream. This is because these are two areas that I have much interest in my life since I was young. It is with this desire that I make this application to undertake dual degree program in engineering and business in Penn University. The interdisciplinary aspect of Penn is paramount to me because it will help me have a well rounded base in expanding a community currency, fundraising for charity and also leading my lab group.

Studies in engineering degree will help me advance in the world of technology. This will be a considerable achievement because the world of technology is advancing where every time there is a new idea or invention developed (Townsend & Gottlieb, 2004). The degree will put me in a much better position to contribute to the world of discovering technological equipments that will make life better and make work easier just like the laptops and the cell phones have done (Blakely, 2009).

I have worked as a programmer, and developed an interest in animation, graphics design and gaming. Therefore, I will also undertake computer science/gaming courses in the university. I have knowledge in GWBasic and BlueJ, I also created a 3000 line code for hospital management system in which I scored 96 out of maximum 100. I have also learned CiMPLE (for robots built using iPitara kits of Robo.in) and NXT-G (for robots that use Lego Mindstorms NXTs) which are minor programming languages. Currently I am one of the chief programmers of the school gaming team. I also have a certification from Cambridge University for attaining standards in the modules such as website design, control of purpose and others. I am also a member of computer literacy program which teaches underprivileged kids various subjects.

I have also performed exceptionally in mathematics throughout my study life, for example, State scholarship Exam where I ranked number 22, Pravinya and Pragnya exams organized by the Mumbai Ganit Mandal (Bombay Maths Academy – Samrat Academy) in the year 2005 and 2006 where I attained 1st/A+ grade. In ICSE Board Exams, I stood first in India securing 100 % in Mathematics. I have also learnt Vedic Mathematics purely out of interest and also conducted a teaching session on it for underprivileged children at an NGO named Project Crayons. Mathematics is a subject that I have passion and keen interest.  I have also done exceptionally well in physics, for instance, I’ve consistently been among the top two performers in Physics in Std VIII and IX, and  topped the school in science in the ICSE Board Exams of 2009 with 97% in the combined average of physics, chemistry and biology. I have also participated in the IRO (Indian Robot Olympiad) competition for two consecutive years and have done fairly well on both occasions by finishing fairly in Bombay in 2009 and by finishing in the top 5 in 2010. I stood second in a Robotics sumo-wrestling competition held at Sathaye College in the year 2008. I conducted a robotic workshop for children from rural and economically backward background though Agastya International Foundation at a village, Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh.

I have strong determination to succeed so that I can be outstanding among other people. This is something that I have from inside my soul and am, able to use the determination to reach great heights. I have developed this determination because of the values taught by the society. I am also motivated, enthusiastic and ready to contribute effectively in all my assignments. I have positive expectations that the admission committee of the university will consider my application positively so that I can join the university and realize my dream.
