Seahawks Scholar, Essay Example

I live by the motto “Perseverance Commands Success” which is why I have never let difficult circumstances or others’ opinions discourage me from pursuing my dreams. I am a single mother and am proud of coming this far but I also realize I have been helped by many people along the way. This is why I also want to make difference in others’ lives and being a Seahawks Scholar will allow me to help other students with their challenges and issues.

When I disclosed my plan of pursuing a graduate degree to friends, they wondered if I could do it. I told them it’s not a matter of whether I can do it or not because I just have to do it. I want my son to inherit my ‘must do’ attitude and successfully completing my graduate degree will allow me to set a personal example for him. I want to teach him that challenges are part of life but they also test our strengths.

I visited LSC-PA campus and loved the campus co-curricular opportunities available to students. I aim to be actively involved in on-campus activities in both leadership and volunteer positions because diverse experiences and interaction with other students help us expand our thinking perspectives. I will not only use this scholarship award to only excel at academics but will also try to enrich college experiences of other students.

Being from Africa, I have unique cross-cultural perspectives and am motivated to make the best use of the opportunities life is giving me. I look forward to attending LSC-PA as a Seahawks scholar and hope to be a valuable member of the LSC-PA’s community. This scholarship will go a long way in helping me achieve my dreams and become a productive member of the society.
