Sensory Processing Disorder, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Words: 362

Research Paper

This form of disorder is a problem in the brain that hinders it from responding and receiving information that comes via senses. People suffering from this malfunction tend to appear oversensitive to objects in their surroundings. Other victims of this disorder also tend to bump into objects, find it hard to participate in a play, and exhibit uncoordinated moves among other deformities.

This malfunction is extremely disturbing to pregnant mothers and can end up causing the loss of the child in the event proper care is not administered. For pregnant mothers, they experience lack of balance, which makes it difficult to move from one location to the next, especially when one has few months remaining to give birth. The health status of the pregnant mother is supposed to remain stable, free from stress, and such stresses caused by this disorder may depict some negative effects on the unborn (Peske & Biel, 2005). According to reports from scientists, the fetus may be affected by the disorder causing delay in development. The child may be affected in areas such as cognitive and physical, sensory abilities and self-regulation. Owing to such negative impacts, it becomes extremely vital for any pregnant woman to remain careful if suffering from this disorder (Buitelaar et al, 2003).

In terms of the body system, the person is affected, and the family too shares in the agony of the patient. The body systems do not function too well, and the family has to mobilize resources to look after the sick person (Dunn, 2001). Additionally, the family has to dedicate much of their time to look after the patient because in some cases, they can hardly move. The family has to provide emotional support because in some cases, the victim may appear depressed and frustrated.
