Essay

The manager in workplace must learn how to avoid a situation of directly resolving conflicts arising among the co-workers. There are high chances for a continuous contact of people in the workplace and this means that conflicts are likely to occur overtime. The manager should appreciate the fact that any conflict that remains unresolved contributes to miscommunication attributed to failure of cooperation, lack of creative collaboration, high levels of stress and lack of problem solving commitments within the team. The manager is best placed to investigate and address the complaints of the workers. Successful managers must learn ways of mediating through differences arising among their employees and bridging the differences appropriately. A clear understanding of the contribution made by coaching in improving performance, improving personal as well as professional development and psychological wellbeing is important to managers (Grant, 2009).

The manager should have a clear understanding of the contribution that has been made by globalization in the diminishing trend of cultural differences.  It is important to make a choice between strengthening the cultural differences and merging to the common culture.

A good manager should be able to apply the element of validation. It is an important consideration for a manager to reflect on his or her cultural perspective and that one of the client as well. It is important to note that if the cultural setting of the manager is individualist and egalitarian, much effort are needed to analyze the multifarious social contexts, obligations, as well as politics related to the  situation of their clients. It is also necessary to give room for the consideration of two divergent mindsets, one for the opinion that every individual is unique and the other one holding the fact that, expansive cultural similarities are probable beyond persons “uniqueness”. (St-Jean, 2009).

A good manager should be able to apply the element of empathy. A good manager is able to understand the problems of other people including team members, junior administrators or competitors (St-Jean, 2009).The manager must be able to explore the perspectives of other people, identifying internal emotions, instincts as well as thoughts. A clear understanding of this kind of empathy is consequently followed by the following steps of action:

Careful listening: the manager should give sufficient time to any speaker and not formulate the immediate action as the person speaks his or her mind. Even if the speaker may be on the extreme wrong side, sufficient time is needed to get a clear insight of is spoken.

Imagining: the manager must be in a position to imagine taking the position of other people in the workplace and doing as they are supposed to do. This means an imagination that the manager can hypothetically experience the position of other people (Grant, 2009).

Examining and communicating the understanding of perspectives of other people. This helps in making other people appreciate that the manager actually understands their situations.

A good manager should be able to apply the element support. A clear understanding of the contribution of teams as the driving force of organizations is an important consideration for successful managers. Poor functioning of teams results to poor performance as well as poor productivity. The manager should therefore be keen on the interpersonal skills in addition to intersections as opposed to individual development. Good communication among the teams improves the performance of the team.
