Sex Ed Letter, Essay Example

Essay

Masturbation is a normal activity for humans to participate in. There shouldn’t be a stigma associated with it, especially with teenagers because they’re at the age where they’re exploring their bodies and discovering what their bodies are capable of doing. If a person is taught that masturbation is a shameful activity then all other sexual activities will be associated with shame. Associating sex with shame creates negative emotions. If a parent refuses to talk about the joy of masturbation then they’re missing an opportunity to begin an open dialogue about sex and other sexual activities.

There are certain things that all teenagers, or anyone being introduced to sex/sexual activities for the first time must be educated in. For instance, real harm can come to teenagers or first timers if they don’t know some of the following things. Lubrication isn’t a shameful thing, but can aid in masturbation and prevent rubbing the skin raw; however, certain lubricants should not be used for masturbation, or for sex. Lubrication must be water-based. This is shown on the label, the front of the container, or in the ingredients. If the lubrication is not water-based then the person using it runs the risk of getting a yeast infection (this of course is for females only). Also, certain lubricants are to only be used externally (around the labia, on the base/shaft of the penis) but not internally (in the vagina or near the urethra). Warming lubrication is one such lubricant. It will burn the inside of the person using it.

If a person chooses to masturbate then they need to know about positions and toys. If a person chooses to purchase any sex toys to aid them in climaxing then they need to be aware of a few things. Sex toys that have BPA in them should be avoided. These contain cancer-causing plastics/materials. Also, certain lubrications will deteriorate the plastic in sex toys. Thus, your lose your toy and you run a risk of an infection. Sex toys that are made from Parabens should be avoided as they cause yeast infections in women, women can have an allergic reactions to certain toys/lubricants, some lubricants can cause lower sperm count, or even cause problems in the womb. Anyone who uses sex toys should keep in mind that just because someone invented it, doesn’t mean that it’s safe to use. Masturbating without lubrication can cause problems such as chaffing, or open sores that in turn may get infected. Rubbing the skin raw for pleasure may feel good in the moment but it becomes an issue after the act is performed and the person is left with the after effects. Oil based lubricants should not be used because they cause infections.

Men who masturbate or perform onanism, should not perform such acts in a prone position. This may cause erectile dysfunction if the act is performed while the man is prone on a bed/couch/floor etc. and the man is grinding their penis against this surface. The penis is a tissue and therefore can be easily damaged. If there’s not open conversation about sex and sexual activities then this lack of knowledge could be harmful in the long run. Miscommunication can lead to serious medical issues.

Sex is a healthy part of any human and needs to be explained to the younger generation so that they are prepared with the proper information instead of misinformation. Not talking about sex is way more dangerous than talking about it. Masturbating, proper masturbating (not that any one way is correct, but that there are some harmful ways to masturbate) can be a fun and enjoyable activity that teenagers can enjoy by themselves or even with someone else if they’re abstaining from sex but want to enjoy each other’s company in an intimate way. I hope that this letter emphasis the joy that can come with masturbation and give some tips on good and bad ways to do it.
