Sexual harassment and age discrimination in health care organizations

In the last few years, the charges of gender discrimination have been in many wok places but more specifically in the healthcare organisation. The law protects both men and women from any kind of sexual harassment and discrimination at the place of work. In many organisations around the country, the women face stereotypes on how they have dressed and may be discriminated when they are pregnant as they cannot work over long period of time (Murphy & Graff, 2005).

In the organisation where I worked, the women with disabilities felt very vulnerable to sexual assault. This would be seen by the inappropriate comments and comments  related to the gender of the female disabled workers that to other women may not be offensive has been proved to be very offensive to the women with disability.

What role should the health care manager assume in dealing with these issues?

In order for organisations and managers particularly to deal with the issues of discrimination in the health organisations, they first need to become knowledgeable on the antidiscrimination laws and then keenly pay attention to what is happening in the work place.   By a manager paying attention to what he or she does not normally see s important because even if  one will not easily see or stop sexual harassment or gender discrimination behaviour of other staff, the moment one ignore even a  hint of such behaviour, the company may suffer for a long time (Bergman, 2007).   This is because it comes with the increased conflicts among the hospital staff, low morale and even law suits could arise.

When it comes to dealing with age discrimination, the manager should not favour the older employees. Programs like flexible working arrangement should be opened to all.
