Shared Decision Making: A Model for Clinical Practice, Coursework Example

Pages: 1

Words: 390

Coursework

This is a detailed description of one type of decision support system that will have an impact on a set of variables that impact a health condition or conditions. In this context, there is also an opportunity to examine existing protocols and to modify them accordingly in an effort to achieve greater efficiency in the clinical environment (Musen et.al, 2014). There are significant advantages associated with the development of clinical decision support systems that accompany shared approaches to advancing clinical knowledge and resources effectively (Elwyn et.al, 2012). Clinicians must be able to extract knowledge and provide a framework for advancing clinical knowledge to advance the practice setting through a technology-based approach to clinical decision-making (Elwyn et.al, 2012).

Most importantly, the chosen clinical decision support system must be user friendly, and training must be provided to users in order to accomplish the specific objectives that the system aims to advance. This practice may also have an impact on performance-based outcomes for clinicians, including those that have an impact on direct patient care and wellbeing (Jaspers et.al, 2011). This is essential to the management of new practice requirements as they emerge and how these may influence the type of decision support systems that are created (Jaspers et.al, 2011).

Clinical decision support systems must be forward-thinking in their approach and stimulate discussions regarding ways to improve patient care quality in a consistent and continuous manner (Greenes, 2011). Therefore, they must be able to accommodate specific types of information regarding patients that translate into productive decision-making tools for clinical professionals (Greenes, 2011). It is anticipated that these tools will provide a framework for addressing gaps in patient care and other areas of clinical practice and will establish a set of guidelines for improving the practice setting both now and for the foreseeable future.
