My major health care is paid through insurance policy coverage. The policy name is metroplus gold: metroplus health plan and covers the entire family. This plan uses a network of providers. The coverage includes primary care doctor visits to treat injury or illness, specialists’ visits and treatment and preventative care. Outpatient surgery is also covered along with emergency room care, hospitalization and physician surgeon fees. Pre and postnatal services are coverage along with delivery for family membersrequiring  such care (Metroplus, 2014)

However, many other health care needs are not covered in this policy requiring out of pocket payments. For example, specialty drugs are not covered if a provider outside of the network is used.Generally eye and dental care for individuals as well as family members are not covered in this policy. These charges will have to be paid out of pocket or I would have to supliement this policy with a separate dental and vision insurance. Besides, cosmetic surgeries are not covered along with routine foot care, acupuncture, long term care, barbaric surgeries and non emergency care if travelling outside of the United States of America (Health Insurance Plans, 2014).

In knowing the provisions of my policy my family spends a limited amount of money on non-reimbursable health care each month, including over-the-counter and self-treatment products. My son is fully immunized and seldom develops colds. If he develops a fever after being vaccinated at the clici then I am forced to purchase an over the counter fever medication to address this health condition.  In concluding this discussion it is safe to say that this policy is fairly adequate in meeting me and my son’s health care needs. The only disadvantage is lack of vision and dental care.
