Utilization of Leddy’s Model for Interpretation of Self-Assessment      

According to Leddy (2006) one manifestation of a health pattern is healthiness, which is defined as a measurable process among perceived purpose, connections and power to achieve goals. As a consequence, healthiness requires that an individual understands their basic meaning in life, has goals, is confident, is allowed to make one’s own choices, and has the capacity for control. I scored a total of 105 on this assessment, which indicated I have low energy, vigor, and confidence. It is important for me to turn these weaknesses into strengths because having high energy, vigor, and confidence would support my ability to perform well in the obstetrics clinic. This score is consistent with observations I have had about myself because although I know that I am a skilled nurse, I often have a difficult time making decisions when they are of significant important, even though I often know how to resolve the problem. Furthermore, increasing my energy and vigor will allow me to stay on task more significantly, which will ultimately contribute to the enhanced health of my patents. It is easy to field overwhelmed during my daily practices, which contributes to my energy drain. However, it is important for me to be more self-aware of the fact that I am doing my best and I am doing a good job of helping my patients achieve recovery.

Development of Interventions

In order to improve upon my deficit areas, it would be necessary to take steps to improve my self-consciousness. All of my problems appear to be related to this deficit. I am not vigorous or energetic because I lack the confidence that I need in order to feel successful. In order to resolve this problem, it is important for me to alter my ways of thinking (Roberts, 2014). Specifically, whenever I begin to doubt myself, I need to take a moment to reflect on the problems I am facing and how I will solve them. I will then rationalize whether this decision is the best and move forward with this plan. As I am enforcing the plan I will then convince myself that I have been successful in completing such procedures previously, so I will this time as well. This will help me gain a greater understanding of myself as a professional and understand the fact that my decisions are typically for the best, so there is no real reason to lack confidence.

Implications  

It is possible to use Leddy’s Health Theory in clinical practice in order to gain a greater understanding of the patients’ needs. Ultimately, health care professionals often have a difficult time in determining how they can help their patients, and in these cases, it is necessary to determine whether they need mental support in order to enhance their recovery. Individuals that are strong-willed often recover at a quicker pace, and it is important to consider that it is necessary for nurses to facilitate this mode of recovery in their patients whenever possible. Furthermore, this will help the nurses determine how these individuals could strengthen their support systems at home, which would help contribute to the positive effects of this process. Overall, Leddy’s Health Theory can be used as a supplementary analysis for the nurse to gain a greater understanding of the interaction between mental and physical ailments related to disease.
