Skyline hotel is a hotel establishment that provides accommodation and dining. The hotel has 232 quest rooms that are twin room, superior room, deluxe king, executive king, deluxe queen, and junior suites. The skyline hotel is one among the skyline chain of hotels but operates independently from the others. The hotel provides an array of amenities to its quests including flat screen TV’s and refrigerators in rooms as well as Cali amenities and internet. The rates of the rooms start from $197 and vary according to the number of individuals occupying the room and the room booked. The hotel rates at four stars and provides exceptional services for its class. In addition, worth mentioning is that the hotel also allows pets and restricts the number of these pets to only two per room.

The hotel is located at the center of Clinton/Hell’s kitchen neighborhood of New York. The hotel provides a clear sight of the of New York City’s skyline, in addition to being situated a, few blocks from Times Square, Theater district, Intrepid museum, Jacob Javittis Convention center and the fabulous nightclubs and restaurants in New York. Additionally the hotel provides a penthouse that houses a gym and an indoor swimming poll that overlooks the New York City line. The hotel also provides hotel wide internet services to its quests as well as valet parking that put into consideration the quests although the same is available at a surcharge. The department chosen is the housekeeping department that deals with accommodation. This department ensures that the quest rooms in the hotel are kept at standards that satisfy its quests. The responsibilities include tidying the rooms and ensuring that the accommodation sector of their hotel runs smoothly. The department plays a central role in the hotel as the quality of the services provided by the hotel depends on the professionalism and quality of the work of these individuals. The department comprises of twenty-three individuals and has a hierarchy of employees according to the required management standards. Majority of the individuals here is the housekeepers under the supervision from their superiors. The employees have to work shifts that are day shifts and night shift where the department provides its services around the clock. . The department employs technology to make communication efficient, provide proper management, and reduce costs. The technology employed by the hotel incorporate technology aimed at cleaning which includes the use of ultra violet inspection lights and sterilization bands. Additionally technology assists in time management and ensures that the housekeepers perform the required tasks at the stipulated time and check in at appropriate times. The technology used in such circumstances includes the use of electromagnetic scanning devices for check in and check out times and communication devices to facilitate timely communication.

The organizational chart of the department comprises of the executive housekeeper responsible for the maintenance of smooth operations within the department such as problem solving, quest relations, leading and planning. The room keeping supervisor, on the other hand, controls and directs room services such as installation and maintenance of amenities, room make up, and conformity with set housekeeping standards. Next in the hierarchy is the room attendants who provide room services, which include cleaning the rooms and provision of room services where necessary. Lastly, the pest control and laundry technician who manages pest problems as well as ensure cleaning of laundry. There is constant communication between the housekeeping department and other divisions in the hotel to facilitate the satisfaction of the quests as well as maintain efficiency and live up to the required standards. The tasks completed by individuals in this department must reflect the expectations of the other departments in terms of timing and the work done. The housekeeping department must keep in touch with other departments to either prepare rooms after the occupants check out or ensure the availability of amenities for quests continuing their stay and, therefore, must receive information about continuing quests and new quests. Additionally in providing additional amenities to the quests, the personnel in this department must rely on information from other departments. Constant communication is extremely essential to the department to ensure accomplishment of tasks required from the housekeeping department. It is, therefore, imperative that communication between the housekeeping departments of skyline hotel must be maintained at high standards. The method of communication adopted in respect to the department involves telephone and digital communications.
