Social and Media Change in Central and Eastern Europe, Essay Example

Social media has great influence on social change. This is because the use of social media has affected how the people are communicating positively. The use of social media includes using social sites like facebook, twitter, and other websites. In the earlier days, when the social media had not been introduced, people use to communicate using messenger, signs, and sirens. Someone was sent with a parcel from one place to the receiver place (Jakubowicz 103). This mode of communication had some disadvantages. This is because one could not get immediate feedback from the receiver. After delivering the message, the messenger will not bring any feedback. The receiver could send the feedback after sometime. This mode of communication was ineffective on times of emergencies because the feedback could not be relayed on time. The message delivered by the messenger could be distorted on the way before reaching the destination. The messagecould reach the receiver and no communication could be delivered. Another mode of communication is using signs andsirens. These modes of communication send message by using some signs. The signs could not deliver the message as required because the people on the receiving side will not receive full communication of what is happening.

The introduction of the social media made great social change. This is because people could communicate by sending a message to the receiver and receiving the feedback immediately without any delay (Shirky 93). For example, when usingfacebook, one could send a message to another person and he/she will get the feedback immediately. This has made greatchanges on social communication especially in the case of emergencies. The communication through social sites has made great changes because, in case of emergencies, people could be rescued before being harmed. For example in termsof security, terrorists could post threatening or dangerous messages on the social media. The information could be retrieved by experts from the social media and be use to save the situation. This will enable the concerned bodies to takeimmediate steps, which will enable them to save those who could be affected by the effects of the consequences of theacts of terrorists. The social media has made great changes on the social communication and change. This is because mostpeople are accessed to the social sites in different ways. Those who will not afford to buy their own computers to accessthe social sites can access the same services in the cybercafés. This is where the services dealing with the internet are offered. Large number of people are using the mobile phones to access the social sites. This will enable them to access thesites and communicate at any time of the day. These people could be restricted by some circumstances that they cannot access the sites at night because the places are closed. The phones will enable them to communicate even at night andpass important information to other people especially when an emergency has occurred (Kaplan and Michael 57).

These changes are positive because, using social media, people can be assisted when there are any threats of attack. Thesocial media will assist because actions will be taken before the criminals execute the action. In addition, in case of anyemergency, where some people are injured because of an accident or attack, the doctors can be reached using the socialmedia. This will have saved the lives of the victims because they will have been assisted before being referred to otherplaces for further medication. The social media will assist various organizations in reaching their clients when advertisingtheir products within the shortest time possible. In addition, the organizations can reach many people at once using thesocial media.
