Essay

I belong to each social media site: Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn, except Myspace, it shut down after its initial popularity, and now it serves music artists. There are several differences between each social site, which includes the format and the demographics. Facebook used to be site just for college students, but has expanded to include just about everyone, with close to 1 billion users worldwide, mostly everyone communicates through Facebook. Facebook allows users to set up profiles which details photos, likes, interests, and links to other websites. Twitter is mostly for young people, with a mixture of celebrities, and others that have joined with Twitter’s increased popularity. They provide instant updates through their messaging system, and allow for users to interact with people through the link of their username. LinkedIn is a professional site that is mostly utilized by businesses and people that have a resume to look for a job. They used a cleaner interface that allows users to create a profile that builds as a resume to share with employers.

Google+ is not as popular as Facebook, while Google is the search engine that practically everyone uses, Google+ is a social site that serves Google subscribed members. However, Google has faced many privacy issues with users, and that is a concern with younger individuals that feel that Facebook has better privacy protocols. Not only is Facebook the most popular social media website, Google+ does not have a lot of members, and serves an older crowd of individuals, such as bloggers and writers. Google+ will need to try another strategy to compete. Social media use has gotten several employees fired. In the case out of UK, http://www.mobiledia.com/news/118802.html the courts ruled that Apple had the right to fire an employee that took to Facebook to rant about his job. Although Samuel Crisp profile was set to private, his comments breached Apple’s social media policy against negative comments.
