Social Welfare Influences, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 300

Essay

According to Peter Drucker the social welfare programs run by the government spend far more money than the private sector businesses. He says that America “needs to establish non-profit agencies as the country’s first line of attack on social programs.” (Little, 1992). The non-profit agencies are taking care of the homeless, illiteracy, welfare dependency and teen pregnancy just to name a few attributes. “The government welfare system requires people to constantly confirm their inability to meet their personal and family needs, and reduces benefits for people who work.”(Little, 1992).

The tax cut plan by President Obama is actually a welfare plan since his proposed 95% cut is already being seen by 38% of Americans who already see a refund each year. This further puts Obama into a socialist role. As it stands payroll taxes and Social Security taxes already go to the welfare programs so some people are being double hit. Looking down the line the retirees will have no funding when they are set to retire. “If Obama means to rebate those payroll taxes from the Social Security/Medicare funds, he’s accelerating the bankruptcy of those programs. If not, he’s still transferring money from people who pay income taxes to those who don’t.” (“Obama Wants a Welfare State for America”). Obama is currently challenging the retirement funds by changing the “core of American retirement to social insurance and welfare programs.” (“Obama Wants a Welfare State for America”). Franklin Roosevelt promised there would always be Medicare for the disabled and the old. Neither of these programs were designed to be a charity program but by Obama’s design were headed that way.
