This is a section of the human brain that connects with the skin, and accepts the incoming information from all the peripherals of the inside milieu of the body. In most cases, people think that a touch is a single sense, which is not always true. Here, different senses come because of touch, temperature, pain and the proprioception. A large network of nerve endings does control a simple sense of touch in the human body. Here, the whole system is responsible for the entire feelings of a human being. In common, human do experience the following senses, smoothness, pressure, itching, cold or hot as well as tickling.

Following the above, the term somatosensory refers to collective functions of senses in the body that allows human to interpret and detect a wide range of sensations. Nerve cells react across the whole body when they sense a physical perception. In the event, there are unique cells that react on different physical perceptions as breezes, pressure, pain just to mention but few. Similarly, other variations of sensory cells are responsible to the physical perception as the heat and chill that originates from open refrigerator.

To be precise in within the postcentral gyrus, there is somatosensory cortex exactly located at the centre of the cerebral cortex. Notably, somatosensory cortex has several areas that correspond to input from nerve cells. Thus, the largest part corresponds to areas with high sensitivity as face. However, other categories of somatosensory cortex are responsible for visual. In this case, so much of the sensations come from the head, and so the somatosensory is heavily parked at the head than the limb.

Tickling

As much as tickling can be fascinating, scientist has it that it is not only a neurological act from a sense of touch, but a habit that can be learned. Tickling is caused from the sense of touch transmitted from the nerve endings on the skin to the brain hence causing one to feel like laughing.

In conclusion, somatosensory cortex is cells found on the skin, but transmits waves to the brain on a touch action and are responsible in the sensing systems of the body. Thus, this is a reaction from the touch, which comes in from the various systems of the body.
