Research Paper

Many organizations have operating principles, and this applies in the heath care field.  Efforts to ensure the operating principles met lead into conflicts and dilemmas. Conflict resolution requires one to make ethical decisions and choices (Adeyemi, 2010). The intelligence involved in ethical decision-making enhanced by education and experience, and strategic approach. This paper describes how one would sort through a conflict created when the four ethical principles each focus on a different and conflicting action.

Ethical conflict resolution is all about making choices with the utmost integrity. One should develop a standard of competency by adopting the four R’s of ethics, recognize, responding appropriately (Adeyemi, 2010). The response could include either resolving or referring the conflict.

In the recognition, the value conflict identified. This assessed through the conduct, character and condition of the person involved and the situation at hand. The common ethical standards guiding the organization employed and the rule or value breached identified.  This approach avoids sliding into uncertainties and further conflicts.

If the claim ascertained to be genuine, then the second step is responding to the conflict. The first thing in responding is analyzing the analysis of the value conflict. Depending on the circumstance, and if the conflict is minor and can be resolved within one’s reach, then it  resolved and ends at that point. An ethical decision-making process follows, where a satisfactory way addressing the concern employed. The best and right choices made, considering all factors and concerns of the affected to ensure complete satisfaction. However, if the situation lies beyond one’s capabilities, the best response would be to refer it to the next higher level (Ojelabi, 2010). At this point, several decision makers involved. Enough information and evidence gathered to define the conflict clearly. A viable and feasible decision employed to solve the value conflict while also ensuring justice and satisfaction.
