Sports in American Schools, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 293

Essay

In American schools, sports are given a priority and millions of dollars are spent to finance sport activities. Even so, I do not agree with Amanda that too much time and money is spent on sports, because the impact is reflected in the benefits that learners get from sports.

American schools should put more emphasis on sports because learners benefit a great deal out of playing games. Firstly, the article on psychological effects of playing sport shows that, research has proven that sports help students to remain healthy, besides playing a role in development of youths. Additionally, it helps learners to improve academically, gain high self-esteem, experience few behavior problems, and learn teamwork.

From my personal observation, sports help students to establish stronger relationships among them, while avoid getting into risky behaviors. Through sports, students are given a platform to realize their talents, besides improving their skills in some games. In the same vein, I have seen students establish positive and valuable relationships with adults for taking part in some games. Notably, I have realized that most people with weird behaviors, and antisocial are mostly those who were denied a chance to play in their childhood.

Unfortunately, some countries such as Germany, South Korea, and Finland do not give much emphasis on sports and children only get a chance to engage in sports, one they are at home. Most schools give less emphasis on sports, while some deem it as an expensive affair. In some countries such South Korea, schools do not even have sports facilities, and the situation is not likely to change.

In conclusion, it is obvious that, although schools spend heavily in sports, the benefits are undeniably many. Apart from improving on academics, learners improve their self-esteem, and gain personal development among other benefits.
