This essay highlights good and bad aspects of the story in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, through probing exploration based on the topic. The story also has a novel adaptation as well as a film version. The purpose of the story centers around Luke Skywalker challenging the storm troopers of a distant galaxy on a mission. On this mission, a force of life becomes the power of death (Wookieepedia).
Luke Skywalker’s involvement in this mission was inadvertently initiated when he came into possession of droids carrying the plans of the storm troopers, which were instructions on how to destroy the Death Star space station (a weapon created by an evil empire). This story is one of the “love and hope conquers all” stories in which a young gentleman is caught up in saving the welfare of a beautiful young woman. In this instance, Luke wanted to save a princess who was being held captive by a warlord.
A person might be tempted to give up trying so hard to rescue someone from something, but if that person has love in his or her heart and hope, then they are more willing to take on challenges to rescue someone. This is what Luke Skywalker did in this story. This should be seen as something that lets people know that there is good in their good actions and giving up does not have to be an option, no matter what the situation is and not matter the challenges.
This relates to the topic in that it identifies with the phrase, A New Hope, because Luke’s challenge was to navigate a galaxy civil war and defeat a group of spies and rebels to recover plans to build a weapon that would destroy the planet. This is the motive for the rebels—to conquer the planet and hold the planet hostage with the threat of this weapon that could destroy it. Luke has to rescue the princess because she is in possession of the plans and has hidden them in the memory of an android. The larger issues this raises is Luke’s love for the princess and their hope for success in bringing down the corrupt rebels is something that would save the planet, which makes their love and hope significant to every being on the planet.
This suggests that no matter what, it is always too soon to give up. It also shows that there is always a way out, one just has to find what that is and take advantage of it. In addition, it is important to know how to work with one has to get what one wants. However, reservations could include that sometimes if something is not working after so many attempts, then perhaps that are a sign that one needs to go in another direction and try other things to get to the same desired result.
Some would say that Luke should have minded his own business and allow the princess to be sacrificed and maybe the rebels would not have found the plans anyway. It is also possible that the princess could have just programmed the droids to destroy the plans, rather than give them over to the rebels. This is one view that could go against the love and hope view. However, this view does not consider that there are always loopholes that one can go through to bypass certain events, and this is what Luke did when he was able to fight in the war with his dead father’s light saber, given to him by his father’s friend.
This essay highlightedsome good and bad aspects of the story in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. This topic shows that the phrase, A New Hope has real life implications in that it shows that where there is hope, one can conquer all types of obstacles, as Luke Skywalker did in his challenge to save the princess, the plans, and the planet. The general claim of believing in hope should be considered because every day is different, and one does not always see what is ahead that may be something good. This claim should be considered , as well, because perseverance often pays off when one looks for ways to come at a problem from different angles, and see the problem from a different view.
This essay was compiled using the wiki for the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope movie and the book. Suggestions for future work with this type of essay could include actually watching clips of the movie and getting a feel for the story from that perspective. Additionally, compiling the opinions of a few other people who have either seen the movie or read the book for a future topic would be helpful, as it would incorporate different viewpoints and opinions. This would shed a different light on discussions about a particular topic.
