Essay

Abstract

Even though alternative medicine is not a modern invention and can be traced as original medicine; infiltrations of a new world philosophy termed scientific medicine has thwarted the appetite for natural cures; herbal remedies and every form of alternative medicine, which forges the acknowledgement that humans are not just a body, but have several other dimensions to their being. As such, undertaking to build a practice from this paradigm has its peculiar challenges emerging from a race consciousness that scientific medicine is the best. In the following pages of this presentation the author will relate some of these challenges and strategies which can be adopted to overcome them.

Alternative Medicine: Steps to grow my practice

Introduction

There are three concepts pertinent to growth in developing a practice of alternative medicine. It pertains to creating the deal in my uniqueness surfaces as being, doing and speaking are integrated into my practice. In this respect the awareness of differences among individuals must be embraced in understanding that my personals values are not the same as my clients and they must be allowed the space to be themselves.

Being

A popular assumption regarding being as it directly relates to the alternative medicine culture is that man is a three fold being comprising of body, soul and spirit. Clients learn their being through observation while practitioners help them create the deal. Importantly, this being is interwoven into the concept of oneness. Even though we are unique individuals there is the interconnectedness to the universal whole.

Getting and staying in alignment with the universe and all entities around me including my clients is the key to a successful practice. It is expected that the practitioner becomes that supportive mechanism on this journey of restoration/ wholeness maintenance and the overall healthiness inculcation in mind, body, spirit.

Doing

Becoming aware is essential towards clients into total recovery. Often the practitioner has to work out elements of the practice through experiments with the ‘self ‘before transference to clients could be successful. If an herbal remedy is recommended; it must be authentic. Evidence based intervention must be available to demonstrate how effective this medicine was on a number of other clients. Therefore, to be transparent the client must never be the experiment; but another valuable expression of what treatment can achieve after application or doing.

Speaking

Someone has said that the body is in the mind and not the mind in the body. Essentially, the mind controls body and not body controls mind. Dis-ease then is transferred into a wholeness concept since clients become adaptable to changes in the body. They can be allowed to participate in designing programs which detail what is consumed daily, including food, beverages, prescribed medications, herbals, and nutrients. Overtime they can evaluate their progress and the necessary adjustment can be made.

Biggest challenge in exploring my own and the client’s emotions in the treatment room

One of the greatest difficulties of a world saturated with sickness and disease is helping people understand that the body responds to mind and not mind responding to the body. The body expresses indiscriminately the activities of mind since the subconscious mind is ever recording incidences of sickness, death, diseases and every situation it is exposed to. In its own time these experiences are replayed in our bodies, world and affairs because they were invited in from exposure.

Therefore, a practitioner ought to be aware of how emotions shape experiences to deprogram or detox undesirable experiences before they travel through mind to affect the body which definitely will react to such toxicity. In finding where these emotional discrepancies enter and their effects on the body; is the practitioner as well as the client’s greatest challenge.

Steps taken now to face that challenge

One step is for the practitioner to obtain knowledge about healthy physiological and psychological processes that support healthy mind, body and spirit. Limiting exposure to toxic experiences such as disease, movies that disturb the emotions, literature that frighten the spirit and allow fear to emerge can be every effective. These can be replaced by laughter, fun, engaging in healthy games that produce emotions that heal.

Conclusion

Exploring lower back pain symptom between the second and third chakra

Practitioner: Good Morning/Afternoon, Debra! How are you today?

Debra: I am wonderful except for some discomfort in my lower back?

Practitioner: – (Pauses and observes Debra’s aura, posture, facial expression, emotions and signs of pain before asking any other questions or offering her a seat). How long have you been experiencing this discomfort?

Debra: It has been going on for a while and I have been taking physical therapy and medication to no avail, but it has become progressively disturbing over the past two weeks.

Practitioner: Have a seat please! You are here because you are looking for some relief other than medication and physical therapy. Am I correct?

Debra: Definitely, I do!

Practitioner: – Let me explain a little bit of how we as alternative medicine practitioners approach situations such as lower back discomfort. First, it must be understood that the body reacts to emotional disturbances and manifest this in various ways.

Explaining what is the body trying to communicate.

Emotions speak to the body through healthy outcomes as well as pain, discomfort and eventually disease if initial symptoms go unheeded. Except in a case where you had a physical injury to your back, pain in the lower back region is symbolic by underlying emotional tension. If emotions are not expressed there is a back up of energy ultimately blocking the second and third chakras situated in the lower back and sacral regions.

Also, when people close to you are denying you their emotional support these emotional energies back up as well spilling over into your emotional environment. This is why in interpreting pain or discomfort any where in the body that the roof cause be assess first rather than trying to alleviate a symptom. Now, tell me have you been pressured financially?

Debra: – Well recently there has been a down sizing at my job and we have all lost income. At the moment I am finding it extremely difficult to pay my rent and meet all the utility bills all by myself since my husband and is out of a job and seems not to be looking for one neither applying or unemployment. I just feel overwhelmed financially.

Practitioner: Taking a holistic approach towards resolving the emotional stress related to your back pain discomfort, you must find appropriate strategies to relive the tension. Some suggestions are learning to meditate, application of energy based healing since the spiritual root of the experience is the second and third chakras. Also, engaging the services of an aura healer could be beneficial as well as designing achievable goals to relieve the financial burden.
