Stop Me Before I Shop Again, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 321

Essay

After reading a majority of this article, the author’s point of view becomes known, but it requires reading between the lines throughout a variety of paragraphs. This confusion could have been avoided if the introduction paragraph included a thesis statement with a brief explanation of the author’s point of view in addition to a basic plan as to how the author would defend this thesis throughout the remainder of the essay. Ultimately however, it appears that the author believes that eBay is a useful tool as a whole, although many aspects of the website seem unnecessary or concerning.

Even though the aim of the article is not clear, the author does manage to provide quality evidence. When the author discusses an example of an individual that would benefit from sites like eBay due to his status as a steam whistle collector, the author takes care to explain who the collector is in addition to providing information about his background. The author also uses this evidence to prove the claim because the aforementioned evidence is tied into the usefulness of the website because the author explains that collectors such as the man explained in this example are able to access items of interest from people across the world which improves his ability to access these items and connect with whistle collectors across the world.

The evidence used appears to be factual and the material used to support the point of view also appears to come from a wide range of sources. Although I think the information presented is interesting, I didn’t like this article because it seemed like information was just thrown at me randomly rather than organized in a cohesive manner. It would have been preferable if there were a clear thesis statement so I would have been able to understand the purpose of the information I was presented with from the beginning, rather than left to figure it out on my own.
