It would be hard to think of art without mentioning Edna Hibel and her contribution. Over the years she has proven to be a rare gem in this field of oil, water, paint and brush. The seasoned artist’s works are appreciated all over the world and they have all been put to Edna’s Fine Art Gallery, 5505 South Dixie Highway, corner of Bunker Road and South Dixie Highway-West Palm Beach, FL 33405. Her dearest friend, Bonnie Benamar, described Edna as a master colorist and pointed out her impressionistic, contemporary and figurative approach in her works of art.

Edna Hibel was born in 1917 in Boston Massachusetts area where she grew up. She went to Brookline High School and then to Boston Museum School of Fine Art, from where she graduated in 1939. Later on she greatly contributed to the appearance of lithographs on porcelain. She was the never relenting artist, who “still paints from the comfort of her home and hand enhances her original stone lithographs, and serigraphs with pastels, oil paint, gold leaf, pencil, ink, conte crayon and charcoal.”(Clarkson 2006).

Edna Hibel is the only American female artist who got a museum on the college campus named after her. Thus, she was invited to open a museum in Jupiter, which is pretty successful nowadays. Edna is often referred to as ‘America’s most loved artist, most versatile and the best colorist’, a title which Edna’s friend attributes to Lucy Baines Johnson (President Johnson’s daughter). Edna mastered most of her techniques at a very young age. Her favorite colors were blue and gold, thus when choosing a name for one of her works she mostly relied on the opinions of her relatives and close friends.

The works of Edna Hibel were exhibited in prestigious museums and galleries all over the world. Edna’s most significant achievements include the Medal of Honor from His Eminence Pope John Paul II and the late Belgian Baudouin, the Leonardo Da Vinci World Award for Art, and six honorary doctorate degrees. Eventually, Edna has always believed that young people should paint what they love to paint, for that’s where their soul lays.
