The role of obstetrics revolves around reproduction, birth, aging as well as death which are crucial passages in the life of people. They therefore have a moral dilemma for being health care advocates to make sure that people can access the basic necessities as well as protection of human right especially for the women and children. The role obstetricians as advocates for health needs for women cannot be underestimated. They have all the needed knowledge on sexual as well as reproductive health that affects women and they are commonly approached by women in case of sexual and reproductive health problems. They are therefore obliged to utilize the experience and knowledge to offer the needed care and they can also influence the policies that affect the health status for women (Moore, Castillo, Richardson  & Reid, 2003).

The role advocacy for the obstetricians is further encouraged due to the reproductive roles of women that make them even more vulnerable. Women are also victims of abuse and social discrimination in the society which may compromise their health even further and increase the risks that are associated with their health. The reproductive health of the women and availability of affordable and quality health care services face unjust influence as a result of exposure to malnutrition, violence, lack of employment and education opportunities and poverty. This therefore necessitates for the role of obstetricians in advocating for the enhancement of women social status in the society (McGuire, 2002). Obstetricians must therefore play a constructive role in publicizing as well as monitoring the indices of women reproductive health and avail the relevant information that can sensitize the stakeholders on the rights as well as the health issues that affect the women.
