Managing Stress, Alcoholism and Domestic violence

Stress, alcoholism, and domestic violence are social vices that have relations in one way or the other. A stressed person will decide to consume alcohol; a drunken person is likely to beat up his wife of children without a good reason. Law enforcement officers need to find adequate solutions to contain these vices in the society.

One way that law enforcers can address stress in the society is by encouraging individuals to set achievable targets in life and live according to standards that are affordable to them (Rich Pfeiffer MDiv PhD, 2005). One of the reasons why individuals suffer from stress is the desire to get what they cannot get in actual sense. The individual will live his life trying to achieve the unachievable. When his efforts yield nothing, he becomes a victim of stress, at home or workplace.

Domestic violence is violence occurring within a household, commonly between a husband and wife. A key factor that contributes to domestic violence is alcoholism among men (Davis, 2008). Law enforcers should put into effect harsh measures on individuals who engage in domestic violence. Financial penalties and jail terms for such victims are necessary. Education on how to foster positive values among family members may also be a play a role in reducing this violence.

Alcoholism is a situation where an individual consumes excess alcohol, endangering his health. To control alcoholism, law forcers should effect regulations on alcohol vendors not to sell alcohol to an individual beyond a given level, and before a specified time (Stephen Gislason, 2004).

An individual who is a victim of these vices is likely not to perform at his best. For example, the level of productivity of a stressed or a drunken worker will be lower than that of a relaxed worker (Alluisi, 1982). Therefore, managers need to invest in measures that will ensure employees are free from stress, do not drink excessively and are not victims of domestic violence.
