Subject: Discounted Public Transportation Monthly Passes for Students

College costs have been increasing over the last few years which may discourage many students from completing their degrees due to the financial burden. Thus, any measure that could lessen the financial burden on the students will be a step in the right direction. For the upcoming meeting, I would like to propose a program that would offer discounted public transportation monthly passes to the students at the College of Professional Studies.

I am aware of the budget constraints being faced by the college but the benefits from the program will more than offset the costs. The program will lessen the burden on the college parking facilities and it will also encourage more students to switch to public transportation. This will not only free up space in the college parking facilities but the students’ on-time attendance rate will also improve. It may even increase the college’s appeal to prospective students.

The program may reduce students’ cost of a monthly pass from $60 to $30 per month. The college’s current student population is 500 students which means the total cost to the college could not be more than $15,000 per month. The actual cost may be lower since the college could negotiate better terms with the public transportation authority. In addition, the freed-up space in the parking lot could also be used to generate extra revenues by opening it to the public.
