The Hobbit is noted to be one of the best received fantasy stories by readers from all over the globe. Its author J.R.R. Tolkien specifically brought his readers into an adventure to the unknown while utilizing familiar themes that basically entice the mind of each individual who happen to meet with the main character Bilbo Baggins through the story. What makes this presentation a depiction of the truth although it is grounded on the theme of fantasy is the fact that Tolkien was careful enough to utilize human –based characters and issues even though the main character was a dwarf. Although the approach was rather animated, even older generations are able to appreciate the narrative due to the fact that it endorses attitudes that are known to people from all ages.
The story was basically set by Tolkien in the olden times. The ancient years of past Europe, their lifestyle, their belief of magic and the impact that this matter have on their lives has been used by the author to impose a sense of a traditional approach to the narration of the story. Even in the presentation of adventures, Tolkien was careful enough not to divert from the setting and plot that he has created to present his main character and the elements as well as the situations that surrounded him as he grew older into maturity.
To be able to add in to the excitement of the narration, Tolkien utilized different aspects of adventures that defined Bilbo’s journey towards himself and towards maturity. Faced with the same issues as human adolescents are, the details presented by Tolkien becomes highly relative to the condition of the readers he hopes to present his story to. Understandably, he made it a point that the environment and the people around Bilbo are well-defined hence creating a vivid picture in the minds of the readers.
When it comes to point-of-view, Tolkien managed to create a human picture out of the dilemmas of an unknown character. Dwarfs, as animated as they are have not been recognized to have the same decision dilemmas as humans. However, for this story, such an approach was effective as it represented Bilbo to be simply different from the others. The consideration over the use of animism, giving life to those that are not usually considered as human-like even made the presentation of the theme of the story more reflective of human characters and desires.
To make sure the readers are able to hop from one scene to another is a smooth manner, Tolkien considered pushing the edges of the adventures into points of acceptance that are best familiar to his target leaders. Considerably, this is where the collaborative use of developmental narration comes into good use, which Tolkien himself incited in the story.
A part of creating an organized story is the assurance of a syntax that would fit in the right words to represent the right themes and ideas. It could be analyzed that with this process, the author was able to create a bridge that helps the readers identify where humanism comes into the story and how well it is able to reflect human nature as part of its them separating it from the theme of fantasy that the that the story is basically known for.
Overall, the Hobbit is a story that conveys a theme that is more than just a representation of fantasy over matter. It discusses more than just the usual things about dwarfs and the things that are believed to be existing around them. Instead of focusing on the animation of the story and its relative connection to fantasy, Tolkien thrived on representing humans through the animation of a dwarf and utilizing his dilemmas to represent the things concerning human adolescents facing the most difficult decisions that would define them as they enter the latter years of life.
