Summary of a Website, Essay Example

Essay

Ergonomicssimplified.com is a website that offers everything ergonomic. On the home page, Ergonomics Simplified indicates a free evaluation with recommendations, a variety of ergonomic products, tips for driving or laptop use and onsite help. The home page also places the term “Ergonomics” in large font and defines it as “fitting the job to the worker, not fitting the worker to the job”. This is a good quote to use in order for users to get an idea of how ergonomic equipment can help them in their everyday life.

The free ergonomic evaluation is a great tool as well. It allows the user to click on specific areas that are hurting. It also asks a few important questions in order to narrow down the user’s problem area and the type of ergonomic equipment needed. In addition, there is a tab with a picture diagram under “Where it hurts”. This tab illustrates examples of where one might have problems, such as low back pain or the sciatica and carpal tunnel or tendonitis in the wrists.

The site does not offer any hand rehabilitation or therapy. It does, however, offer ways in which you can help or prevent pain, carpal tunnel or tendonitis. For instance, they have a page on “Why & How to mouse on the left”.  It explains how the number pad and keyboards are not symmetrical resulting in the hand reaching too far out to the side to use the mouse, straining the neck, shoulder and arm. In addition, under the Ergononmics in the Lab, they talk about pipetting and how to help your hand by using pipettes that spread the work out between the thumb and index finger. The website also gives tips on how to make sure to find a pipette that fits comfortably into your hand so that you do not need to grip harder than needed.  Basically this site offers evaluations to pinpoint your ergonomic problem and offers equipment to use in order to rehabilitate the pain or problem.
