Meta-analysis provides a means of understanding a variety of studies that are focused on answering the same set of questions related to a specific problem (The Medical Dictionary, 2015). This method is conducted with the intent to better understand a means of conducting research that is both efficient and highly effective in answering a specific research question, using statistical information in this manner (Nardi, 2009). The benefit of a meta-analysis is that multiple studies are evaluated at one time, and this reflects the importance of specific variables and their value in identifying the problem and the studies that will support one or more possible solutions (Polit & Beck, 2012).

The adoption of a meta-analysis approach is effective because it provides an organized approach, while also considering other variables that may have a lasting impact on the type of studies that are identified for inclusion (Polit & Beck, 2012). Most importantly, the value of the research cannot be undermined and the studies that are included must also be carefully considered prior to inclusion (Polit & Beck, 2012). It is important for researchers conducting a meta-analysis to identify key variables that will serve as the basis for study identification, while also considering other alternatives that will have an important impact on the reporting that is derived (Polit & Beck, 2012).

Meta-analysis provides a level of insight that supports comprehensive reporting regarding a specific research area of focus, using an inclusive level of review that may contribute to the inclusion of a variety of studies with different types of populations or statistical frameworks that provide value to the researchers and their primary intent (Crowther, Lim, & Crowther, 2010). This process is essential to the developing of a review that will perhaps provide additional and even unforeseen guidance regarding the research question or questions that have been identified (Crowther et.al, 2010).
