Essay

Description of Kaiser Permanente’s setting measures

Three ways to measure quality care is through standardization, evaluation and  evidence based implementation criteria. Kaiser Permanente’s setting measures are distinct. Three of them pertain firstto the health plan accreditation system. Once health plans have been accreditedit is assumed that that they are alignedto acceptable quality of care the organization is expected to deliver. A second measurement used byKaiser Permanente relates to clinical effectiveness of care performance. This measurement is derived from the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) (Kaiser Permanente, 2015).

This is a standardized performance technique informing providers, employers, Medicare and Medicaid of the expected quality of care performance the organization requires.  A third measure is called the hospital safety whereby the leapfrog evaluation measurement is utilized in measuring care. This is a website offering hospital comparisons that measures hospital quality of care regarding patient safety. There are many other measurement criteria used by this organization, but these three account for the major issues affecting quality of care (Kaiser Permanente, 2015).

Quality improvement relationships

Quality improvement within a health care organizational structre revolves around plan, do check and act (PDCA) planning relates to the structure, doing involves the actual process while checking relates to the outcome. This model allows for creating objectives which must be implemented during the act phase and evaluated when checking is being conducted. Every section of this measuring tool is significant because before checking is executed the manager must have a plan beside, which to check actions for improvement. In the same way to ‘do’ there must be a plan of action. Consequently, each phase is equally significant (Nederpelt, 2012).
