Essay

Take All My Crap. Is a man sensing his oncoming death more likely to rid himself of his worldly possessions or cling to them?

I am sitting on the sofa, watching commercials about kids starving. I have nothing to give, and nothing to lose, either. I was hopeless. Although those kids did have a hope to live, even the slightest one, I do not. And I want to be forgotten. I want somebody to take all my crap and let me go. Just forget me.

Looking back to my life, I realize that all I was clinging to was just worthless stuff. When death is getting closer, people find that things gain and lose value easily. The things I have worked for all my life seem to be nothing. What I never noticed. It was redemption. Fulfillment with objects and possessions I own is something that seems impossible now, that I am edging towards the end. In this world, for someone else, my things can still be useful. For me, where I am going to, they will be useless.

I am able to get rid of my worldly possessions now that they do not matter. And I seem to think that they never mattered at all. It is funny how I wanted to keep them, until I got to know that I was dying. Now, they do not matter, just like I do not matter, and the world does not matter for me. I can let all my things go, and the world will let me go easier. Men can see things differently; when they know that they will lose them anyway. I remember my grandmother. When she was getting ready for death, she put all her jewelry in a box and gave it away to her grandchildren. We never knew why until one day she forgot to wake up. And now, I feel the same. I can let go. I am sitting on the sofa, my heart is light, and I can let go of all my worldly possessions, they do not matter now.
