Tattoos as a Branding Statement, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 307

Essay

The article describing the cultural and branding statements of tattoos by Siegel (2014) is highlighting the messages delivered by these arts or decorations.

Indeed, the article attempts to deliver a message that tattoos are not a way of being “different”, more importantly, today, it is an act of “following the crowd”. The messages of the article, however, are not clearly articulated. The below review of the 5M will reveal the reasons for that.

Markets: Published on the Ragan.com site, the article is attempting to appeal to communicators. However, it does not highlight the importance of the message for professionals who are trying to make a living of communicating and sales.

Money: While the article mentions the cost associated with getting a tattoo and removing it, it does not correctly highlight the fact that people can be disadvantaged as business professionals and lose out on profits, promotions, and sales. The only thing the author mentions is that “for anyone who wants to be well regarded professionally, they’re counterproductive” (Siegel, 2014, p. 1).

Media: Using a blog as a media vehicle might be successful to deliver the message, and the integration of social media sharing means that the content can become viral. However, the title does not contain a provocative enough statement or question to influence target audience.

Mechanics: Using a blog entry is a casual method of reaching out constituencies of the company (website). It, however, does not offer a solution or an alternative, therefore, the mechanics of the communication piece are weak.

Methodology: The regular posting of interesting, related, and informative content on the site means that the website is looking to create a strong stakeholder engagement. The site has several sections and new content is added daily. New articles and press releases are shared through social media.
