Teaching Plan for Maintenance, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 317

Essay

Instructional Goal:

Joining the group in the classroom, maintaining the interactions, and staying focus on the task at hand

Objectives and Mastery Criteria

Brenda has already learned how to interact with other peers on the playground but struggles to join the group in the classroom when it is time for group activities. She needs to be able to join her peers in the classroom for group activity and maintain that skill over time without requiring physical  assistance. Reinforcement training has worked in the past for Brenda.

Objective: Brenda will join in with a group of three or more peers in the classroom by following the steps outlined here. She will do this independently for at least three observations.

  1. Brenda identifies the group of three or more peers that are the same age as she is that the instructor assigns her to, which will be by the corner with a visual cue (elephant poster).
  2. Brenda walks up to the group and sits with the children approximately 2-3 feet away, looking at the group members with her body facing them.
  3. Brenda must wait until it is her turn to speak, which the instructor signals with a visual cue. She waits for a two second pause in the conversation prior to speaking. If a peer asks her a question prior to her cue to speak, she waits three seconds after the speaking finishes talking before responding. Brenda must always sit still and keep her body faced towards the peer who is speaking.
  4. Brenda utters an on-topic comment before posing another question to the next peer, such as “What is your favorite animal and why?”

Measures and Recording System:

Data will be collected according to the number of steps Brenda follows correctly (+) and incorrectly (-). Data will be recording a minimum three times a week in the classroom following group activities.

Code:

+ = Performed the step correctly

– = Did not perform step correctly or required physical assistance from an aide
