Essay

One of the ways the state has fostered innovation is by funding public institutions that promote research and education in communication matters. Many students, even those who do not have adequate finances, have the chance to access a learning institution that helps them build knowledge and skills necessary for innovation. The state ensures that young people have the necessary resources to be innovative in the field of communication. One way the state has regulated technological changes in communication is through the introduction of the net neutrality rule (Ross, 2020). By introducing the rule, the state made it illegal for internet service providers to speed or slow down data transmission to and from websites as instructed by their users. This was to promote fair competition. The rule also limited broadband providers from providing different services or fees to users and developers of websites. Even after the rule was eliminated in 2019, states were still allowed to develop their regulations.

Experts have played a significant role in technological changes experienced in communication. In 1991 experts developed email as a messaging system where people could easily exchange information. Many people have adapted to using mails. The internet is one of the significant contributions of experts in technological changes experienced in communication (Rogers, 2019). The innovation made communication easier and faster. People could communicate through messages, calls, video calls and encouraged online platforms such as websites. In the recent past, experts announced the development of 5G, which is an upgrade of existing mobile networks. The innovation promises faster download and upload speeds. The mobile network also promotes wider coverage and stable connections. It will soon replace existing generations of mobile networks. Experts are behind most of the technological changes experienced in communication.

The market and private enterprises have fostered technological changes in communication to promote online retailing. In this case, a prospective customer can view a product from a remote location, make an order, and deliver it to them. The customer and seller do not meet face to face but communicate through online platforms. The need for private enterprises and markets to conduct their businesses virtually fostered technological changes in communication. The market also helps to inform the products that demand developers to try and come up with more effective models. If a certain telephone brand identifies that their products are selling in the market, they are likely to try and develop better products that will help to capture customers’ attention.

Advertising has played a significant role in fostering technological changes in communication. Many establishments have opted to market their products through online platforms to enhance the reach of a greater audience. Many establishments have resulted in developing websites where people can look at the products on offer and compare with other sellers. Advertising has also contributed to the development of ads that appear on most online platforms. Users to various online platforms such as YouTube and Facebook encounter various ads that pop up as they go about their business.

The relationship between technological innovation and consumer society is that it relies on consumer society for any innovation project to be successful. If consumers are not attracted to a particular innovation, its chances of thriving in the market are low. However, various factors have the possibility of contributing to consumer resistance towards a particular innovation. These can be price, social influence, perception about risk, and the benefit they are likely to gain (Abbas et al., 2017). Therefore, innovators should identify the needs held by consumers to develop products that are likely to thrive in the market.

I am a frequent user of various innovations in the field of communication. I have user accounts in various online platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter that allow me to interact easily with people from various parts of the world. This has been enhanced by the ease of access to reliable internet. Through the various platforms, I get to learn new things, receive news from various parts of the world and follow my interests. This has helped me to gain new knowledge and skills. As a student, I have been able to access some of my classes through online platforms, especially when schools had been closed due to the pandemic. By having a stable internet connection, I could interact with my tutors and fellow students as if we were in a face-to-face classroom. Technological changes in communication allowed me to access learning from remote locations. I have also had the chance to interact with various sellers through their websites and platforms. The chance to have a look at the products on offer from various retailers at a go enhances comparison for the best products and prices. Technological changes in communication have ensured that I get needed products from the comfort of my home. Technological changes in communication have enabled me to enhance my knowledge and skills and also network with other people.

One of the standards I would apply to make decisions concerning technological innovation and adoption is the safety guaranteed by the innovation in question. By selecting to use a particular innovation, I would have to ensure that it does not have any possibility of causing harm. Innovation has to serve its purpose without contributing to challenges and dangers. Another standard I would use in making decisions about technological innovations and adoption is cost. The cost charged for a particular innovation will influence the likelihood of purchasing. However, a certain product might be less expensive than others but still be of no benefit to me. In this case, I would choose to adopt an innovation that is more expensive but beneficial. The value I would apply in making decisions about technological innovation and adoption is the benefit the innovation has towards me. When choosing to use a particular innovation in communication, it must be beneficial to me in one way or another. Another value I would have when choosing the type of innovation to adapt to is the simplicity of use (Yocco, 2015). I would rather choose an innovation that does not require much effort to learn rather than one. I am likely to face challenges in understanding how to use it. Another value I would have is the testing before the purchase of innovation in question. In this case, I would choose a product that I can test first before purchasing. This will enable me to identify whether the product is appropriate for me and ease of use. Generally, I would choose the most beneficial innovation, and I am not likely to face challenges during use.
