Technology in Classroom, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 302

Essay

Internet and globalization has tremendously changed the world we live in by speeding up the pace of technological progress and enabling widespread technological adoption through economies of scale. It is now common to see students with internet-enabled mobile technology such as smart phones, laptops, and tablet devices etc. Some instructors may see these gadgets as distraction but these gadgets also offer tremendous learning opportunities. Instructors should adopt mobile technology as one of instruction tools because it will enhance students’ overall learning.

The use of mobile technology will promote discussions among the students. The instructor may post topics on the course website and invite students to express their ideas as well as give opinions on other students’ comments. The students are already comfortable with technology so they may be more motivated to engage in online discussion boards.

Mobile technology also makes it possible to enhance students’ learning through interactive media and videos (Pouezevara) that has not been possible on traditional print media. The use of audio and video technology may especially benefit students who learn better with visual technology than reading and/or lectures.

Mobile technology will also result in more productive use of limited class time. Instead of taking notes in the class, the students will be able to focus more on lectures and class discussions. The instructors may post lecture notes and highlights online which could be accessed by any student anytime.

It is apparent that the use of mobile technology will improve students’ participation and also enable instructors to use limited class time more productively. The ability to incorporate digital media will also help the students better grasp the course material. Similarly, online boards will also allow idea-sharing outside the class room and improve collaboration among the students.
